Otto R. Pfretschner Pre-WW II Trade Violin Bow
$800.00
This German trade bow was made sometime before World War II for the Metropolitan Music Company of New York City. Bows stamped *Otto R. Pfretschner*, like ours, are featured in their 1935 catalog. The Pfretschner spelling is the sign of a trade bow; a real Pfretzschner bow has the “z” in the name, which is the correct spelling. In addition to the “maker’s” brand, Germany is stamped on the underside near the adjuster and “VII” has been scratched on the bow under the silver winding and under the ferrule on the frog.
Our bow is made from older, chocolate colored pernambuco and is round in section. It is sterling silver mounted and has new silver winding to replace the damaged original winding. The fully-lined ebony frog, which is original to the bow, has lovely mother-of-pearl for the eyes and slide. A new thumb grip leather, bone tip, and three-piece silver and ebony adjuster finish off the bow. This is a chance to move to a silver mount pernambuco bow that is almost a century old at a great price.
