Jürgen Klier – fecit Mörendorf
copy of: Guarneri del Gesu
made für J.R. Judd Violins, Williamsport, Pa
We have a Jürgen Klier full size violin which has great sound projection and a fantastic classic older look. The violin was carved in Mörendorf, Germany then shipped to the United States where it was completely gone over, reworked, and hand varnished before making its way to our shop where we cambered the fingerboard, cut a set of pegs, bridge, and soundpost, and set up with an ebony tailpiece. The top and back were carefully graduated. The violin is made in the 19th century traditional workshop tradition. Two-piece maple back with a fine curl while the top plate is fine two-piece medium-width grain spruce, beautiful and straight in its structure. The varnish is slightly antiqued and shows pseudo aging and a satin luster. The oil varnish was all applied by brush, making the violin appear much older than it is.
Corpus 354.0 mm., Major Width 208.0 mm., Minor Width 167.0 mm., Rib Height 29.0- 30.0mm.
The sound of the instrument is mature and powerful. The bottom end is slightly warm and full of clarity. The treble side does not hold back in its resonance. The treble speaks well and has life. The violin is set with our traditional Thomastik Dominants with the silver D and the Pirastro Gold Label Wondertone E. The sound is inviting, and I have fallen for the bass side while the E and A string sound is slightly brighter and growing on me. This violin will do well for the violinist who is advancing nicely and ready for a classic look and formulated powerful sound.
