Friedrich Wunderlich (1878-1966) was born in Zwota, Germany, just south west of Klingenthal. Not much is known with whom he studied with as a young child, one can guess a few different family members. We do know Fredrich worked for a few years in the A. Nurnberger workshop before he set up his own shop in Markneukirchen in 1898. In 1906, Fredrich moved to Leipzig and worked there as a bow maker and violin repairman until his shop was destroyed in bombing raids by the allied forces in 1943 and 1944. Friedrich Wunderlich tried to begin anew life and livelihood in Malmo, Sweden in 1949, yet returned to Markneukirchen in 1950, where he continued to work as a well respected bow maker until his death. He was known for his excellent workmanship, superb wood selection, and high quality playing bows. This bow features pernambuco specie, sterling silver mount, blind eye frog, and a three-piece end screw. The bow is in excellent condition and is a excellent example of his work.
