The Markneukirchen region in Germany, sometimes referred to as Musikwinkel or Music Corner, is known around the world for exceptional musical instruments and bows. This has been ongoing for the past three centuries. The G. A. Götz jr. company, one of the firms in this area, is still operating today. It was started 130 years ago by the current owner’s great grandfather Conrad August Götz. The Götz shop survived two world wars and has been family owned since 1884. The Götz Music Instrument Co. now located in the university town of Erlangen, Germany, situated less than 40 miles from Bubenreuth, one of the great instrument making villages of Europe. Conrad had many fine instruments and bows made in the area that eventually helped make his name and music company known all over the world.
This violin bow is in very good condition. The bow is from the 1940’s. It is pernambuco specie, octagonal section, and mounted in sterling silver fittings. The ebony frog features a single eye and slide made from mother-of-pearl, and the bow is finished with a three-piece end screw. The stick is strong/firm and has a balance point in the middle to lower half. We have given the bow a new silver thread winding to match what was originally on the bow, a new leather thumb grip, and completely cleaned up the bow.
