Stamped:
Charles was the son of Mirecourt bowmaker Francois Xavier Bazin. Charles Nicolas Bazin inherited the family workshop in 1865 following his father’s death from cholera. Charles was only 18 at the time, but already had much experience working with his dad and from his father’s training. The bow making shop flourished under his leadership. Charles supplied bows to many fine shops in Paris, including Gand & Bernardel, Joseph Hel, and the Colin-Mezin shop. Over the next 45 years Bazin employed many of Mirecourt’s finest makers, producing thousands of high-quality bows of remarkable consistency. Bazin was a talented maker and businessman. In addition to producing and overseeing his own bows, he trained many makers who went all over the world to start their own shops. Some of his apprentices and workers were Jules and Vitor Fetique, Louis Morizot, Louis Piernot, Alfred Lamy, and Emile Ouchard. Wow! – what a line up.
Our pernambuco 3/4 size bow is also a WOW! and is in excellent condition. There are no issues to this over 100-year-old bow. We have completely gone over the entire bow, first removing the old worn-out leathers and discolored winding and giving the stick a new silver winding and leathers. The bow was cleaned thoroughly, and we also crafted a new mother-of-pearl for the slide. The tip/head, stick, and ebony frog are original. The bow is sterling silver mounted in pernambuco specie and round in section. The frog is modeled in Parisian eye and the endscrew is in three parts.
