We have a Markneukirchen trade bow with no markings. The bow was made in the Markneukirchen area. The bow has great bones and features a blind eye frog and the original real whalebone winding. This is another bow from my collection of sticks acquired with the help of my dad back in the late 1970’s. early 1980’s. I was a young high school kid living just outside of New York City in New Jersey and totally into all thing’s violin, umpiring, and playing baseball. For many years my dad took me to estate sales, private sales and auction houses in New York City. I’ve been steadily getting many of the bows I collected restored and ready to play again. The bows in need of much attention are now out of carboard boxes and hanging in my workshop. I enjoy bow work very much and plan on getting everything in the collection, about 400 more bows, completed and up for sale.

This trade bow is pernambuco specie, octagonal in section, and mounted in nickel silver. The bow has been meticulously gone over, replacing the tip, new thumb leather capturing the original real whale bone winding, polished the nickel silver, and a deep cleaning of the stick as well as retouching artwork on the stick itself. The bow is in very good condition, with a blind eye ebony frog that has a blue hue abalone pearl slide. The silver lining contains small pins to secure it to the frog. I do not believe the endscrew is original to the bow. This older German bow is a great bread and butter bow, standard nice stuff, with age. The bow is German quality, good balance, great for a player looking for a firm pernambuco stick. The bow is light in the hand, handles with ease, and is a very nice all around stick.
