Alicia Cabrera was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She showed an interest in music from an early age, first learning the piano and picking up the violin in her teenage years. She was originally going to become a composer, studying at the conservatory at the Universidad de Guadalajara. A variety of events prevented her from finishing her studies, and in 2020 she was in Houston, TX learning bow rehairing at the Fishburn Violin Shop under the tutelage of Humberto Nicasio. After attending a number of Learning Trade Secrets classes taught by Master Bow Maker Rodney Mohr, she relocated to Ashland, OH to work at Mr. Mohr’s shop. She has provided services and sold bows to shops such as Fishburn Violin Shop, Robertson & Sons, The String House, Tampa Violin Shop, Finlay + Gage, Nubow Inc., and J.R. Judd Violins.
This elegant pernambuco violin bow is the second offering from American bowmaker Alicia Cabrera. Alicia works out of the Mohr & Mohr workshop in Ashland, OH alongside Master Bow Maker Rodney Mohr. Everything about this bow speaks of skill and precision: the proportions of the bow, the beautifully hand carved ebony frog with a handsome slightly tapered slide and silver rings circling the abalone eyes, and the proud lines of the head. The finishing parts show the same attention to detail, from the pins in the lining to the leather thumb grip, the sterling silver mount and winding, the tip, and the three-piece silver and ebony adjuster.
