Faciebat Anno 16 36
Made in Germany
Sweet, old, and very affordable, this European instrument is offered in a very good state of preservation. This is a great value for the player on a budget looking for a solid German violin. Golden amber/brown varnish with some playing wear and natural patina. The violin also features what we call a mustache in the varnish directly in the playing area. We have carved a new set of pegs, cambered the finger board, and given the violin our standard complete set up. The violin has an elegant spruce top with almost perfect straight medium-width grain combined with a lightly flamed maple back and ribs. The hints of curl in the wood and antiquing in the varnish add to the charm of the instrument. The varnish color is contrasted with the deep black African ebony fittings carved for the instrument.
Corpus 357.0 mm, Major – 210.0 mm, Minor 169.0 mm, Rib Height 29.0 mm
The sound is very even on all four voices. The lower strings ring and have a mature, almost slightly veiled, sound. The treble side is sweet and rings well. I would also describe the treble strings as a clear and clean sound. The violin is comfortable to play and produces a color of sound in the overtones that will please many players. In short, a well-made classic violin, ready for the advancing player who is looking for a violin with age and character.
