Boxwood is an excellent choice for the player looking for a lighter chinrest. Boxwood also causes fewer allergic reactions than the other chinrest woods.

The classic choice. The heaviest of the chinrest woods.
- Rosewood
Usually chosen for its looks or to match pegs and/or tailpiece. Weight is between that of ebony and boxwood. People with sensitive skin are more likely to have a reaction to rosewood.
