E. M. B. German Sterling Silver Violin Bow circa 1920
$825.00
Stamped:
Made in Germany circa 1920’s this octagonal violin bow was made by an unknown worker of very good skill. E.M.B. bows (Music Education Bureau) were made by individual bowmakers and sold to the Bureau in Germany, who then sold the bows to American colleges, music schools, and large city school districts that were looking for nice pernambuco bows for their students. These were bows that were around long before fiberglass. They have always been very decent sticks. This bow is tight grain pernambuco, octagonal in section, sterling silver mount, blind eye ebony frog- a classic look, and a solid sterling silver adjuster. The wood is choice, a nice dark chocolate color, and the bow is firm . It was made by an experienced maker. The camber occurs fast, just past the head. The bow is well thought out and feels great in the hand. We replaced the rotted silver tinsel wire and leather thumb grip because the winding was truly spent. We replaced it with the same material: silver tinsel and a black goat leather thumb. This is a fantastic 100-year-plus-old violin bow.
