HEIKO WUNDERLICH
GERMANY – butt end of the bow

We have an elegant handmade silver mounted violin by Heiko Wunderlich made in the 1990’s in Markneukirchen , Germany. The bow is high quality pernambuco, round in section, and has a sterling silver solid end cap. The pernambuco is a dark red/brown color and is flawless. The facial for the tip is ivory and the ebony frog has 7.0 mm mother-of-pearl eyes surrounded by a .5 mm ring of silver. The mother-of-pearl eyes and the slide are tiger striped and help set off the bow. The knife work in the chamfers of the head is very well done and the entire bow clearly shows the influence of the H. R. Pfretzschner workshop where Heiko learned how to build bows in the town of Markneukirchen. The Pfretzschner workshop goes back 175 years and the Wunderlich name in bow work goes back to the early 1900’s. Quite a legacy.

The bow is semi-firm in its makeup and plays very well. I love the bow. Off the string articulations and huge legato sound on my violin G and D strings. A fine player will keep coming back to this stick to try in the shop.
