fecit Venezia 1804
Gio Battista worked in Venice from 1792-1832. Mr. Judd believes this violin to be a Bodio workshop violin of the Venetian School. The instrument is Italian and in very good condition. The violin has an exquisite hand-made scroll. The arching is traditional Strad numbers, allowing the violin to pump and sing out. The violin has been meticulously gone over in our workshop, receiving a neck graft, new ebony fingerboard and nut, and all eight holes in the peg box have been bushed, along with our standard high-end set up work. The violin has no issues and is ready for another three or four generations of players.
The sound is powerful, with depth and lots of color. There is power and strength that simply oozes out of the bottom end of this instrument. I love the warmth of the sound and how the violin projects with nice sustain. It must be why I love older violins. The treble strings have the good stuff too. They ring and sing with a clear tone but not overly bright sound. This violin has fantastic response and sustain. The strings lay well and is easy to play. This older violin has it all: no issues, tremendous sound, and look. Serious players and younger players alike looking for an instrument of many levels up from a commercial or trade violin will gravitate to this instrument. Great Sound!
